Plastics Group of America Expands Its Operations
May 15, 2012
May 15, 2012 – (Woonsocket, Rhode Island – May 15, 2012) – Bob Lebeaux, president at The Plastics Group of America (TPG), announced today that the company has recently entered into an agreement to purchase the Jules Desurmont Worsted Mill, a nearby mill complex that once restored, will add 240,000 square feet of space to TPG’s operations.
The facility is located less than a mile from the company’s current manufacturing plant at 84 Fairmont Street and will provide TPG with much-needed storage and production space. According to Bob, “this expansion will enable us to fill orders even more efficiently than we’re doing now. It will provide our production personnel with more room to work, and, will enable us to store far more raw materials for immediate conversion into both our virgin and recycled Polifil® resin products. This expansion is further proof of our commitment to “Doing the Needful” when it comes to providing both exceptional customer service and the highest quality products.”
The complex was built between 1907 and 1925 and is on the national register. Listing on the national register provides special consideration during the planning of federally-assisted projects and makes the property eligible for state preservation grants for historic rehabilitation products. The mill’s notable architectural elements include pier-and-spandrel walls with consistent full-width segmental arch or rectangular window openings, brick corbelling near cornices, and protruding sills.
Bob further added “it also gives us a great deal of pleasure to be involved with the restoration of such a magnificent complex, especially returning it to its manufacturing roots as opposed to converting it to another use, a fate which has befallen far too many majestic buildings like these in recent years.”
At a ceremony held to commemorate the official transfer of the property to TPG’s care, the Mayor of Woonsocket, the honorable Leo T. Fontaine, added “we appreciate TPG’s commitment to the city and value them as a business neighbor that contributes to our city’s commercial growth on an ongoing basis. I also want to commend Plastics Group of America for its impeccable safety record – they have repeatedly been recognized at both the state and Federal levels for their commitment to worker safety.”
